Background and Experience

Christen Bruce is an American trained Speech-Language Pathologist who provides assessment, treatment, advocacy and consultation services to children and adults with speech and language disorders.

After receiving her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Speech and Language Sciences from the University of Arizona (’94, ’98) she moved to Washington D.C. where she worked as a speech-language pathologist and district wide specialist in appropriate diagnostic assessment for second language learners suspected of having special learning needs. During this time, she had the privilege to serve a wide range of children with communication disorders from diverse backgrounds.

In 2004, she became the coordinator for The Special Needs Department at The American School of Barcelona (ASB). This position afforded her the opportunity to continue her work with students with learning differences in need of specialized academic support. During her time at ASB, she developed and implemented direct learning support instruction, designed learning accommodations, built a student support team, advocated for increased support for students with learning needs, and collaborated with the general teaching staff to incorporate research based teaching techniques that help all students, but especially those with learning differences, reach their full potential.

Currently, she has a private practice in Barcelona specializing in assessment, treatment, advocacy and consultation services for children and adults with speech and language disorders. She uses individualized, effective, and research based intervention models in the treatment of the following:

  • Language Delays and Disorders- Early Intervention
  • Reading and Writing Difficulties such as Dyslexia and Dysgraphia
  • Specific Language Impairment
  • Autism Spectrum Disorders
  • Articulation and sound system disorders such as lisps and “the R sound”
  • Stuttering
  • Social Pragmatic Language Challenges
