Peter Zelaskowski Psychotherapist.
UK trained My Philosophy and Orientation Although, I specialize in the group analytic approach to psychotherapy, my approach is essentially eclectic, pragmatic and flexible, grounded in a broad base of theory and practice and the belief that individuals are social through and through. This means that whether I work with individuals, couples or groups I will be helping people focus on the relationship, family and community roots of their difficulties. I carry the conviction that many of the difficulties that bring people into psychotherapy are deeply linked to difficulties in our wider society.
My Background and Experience As well as being a psychotherapist in private practice, I am a lecturer in group analysis, tutor and large group conductor at Metafora, pioneer in the training of art therapists in Spain and accredited by the University of Barcelona. I am co-leader of the student supervision groups as well as teacher on the pioneering Masters program in Dance Movement Therapy at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. I have a further role as Affiliate Counsellor in Barcelona for PPC Worldwide – a global provider of Employee Assistance Programmes.
For the past five years I have been an active member of the Group Psychotherapy Forum, a worldwide internet-based discussion group. I am a member of the Goldsmiths’ Association of Group Psychotherapists and the Barcelona Network of English Speaking Therapists.
I originally studied politics, philosophy and economics at Sheffield University, before going on to work for MENCAP and, soon after in 1986, to train at London University, Institute of Education, as a teacher of social studies. I trained as a group psychotherapist between 1988 and 1992 at Goldsmiths' College University of London (accredited by the Universities Psychotherapy and Counselling Association) and St. Bartholomew's Hospital, Department of Psychological Medicine. Since then I’ve worked freelance as a therapist, lecturer and teacher in a range of public and private health and education services.
I have substantial experience working in the adult outpatient field and of working with behaviourally challenging teenagers and their families. Before moving to Barcelona in 1999, I was a Professional Member, secretary and Professional Development Committee member of the British Association of Group Psychotherapists and Chair of the Goldsmiths' Association of Group Psychotherapists. In the UK in 1995 I participated in the launch of Psychotherapists and Counsellors for Social Responsibility and was a founder member of the same organization’s Education Group.
The Services I Offer I essentially offer group, individual or couple psychotherapy. I also offer supervision to psychotherapists who work with groups.
